Strike Risk Rises as Inpex Workers Reject New Contract
Workers at the Ichthys LNG facility in Australia have voted against a new employment agreement. The move increases strike risks amid tight global supplies.
Workers at the Ichthys liquefied Natural Gas facility in Australia have rejected a proposed employment agreement, according to an announcement on Friday by Japan-based INPEX CORP. The rejection increases the likelihood of industrial action at a time when global energy markets are already facing significant supply constraints.
An Inpex spokesperson confirmed that a majority of eligible employees participated in the ballot but did not endorse the terms. The Offshore Alliance, which represents approximately 430 members from the Maritime Union of Australia and the Australian Workers Union, had campaigned against the contract. The union group argued that the proposal failed to meet industry standards regarding wages and working conditions.
