The DANGOTE SUGAR REFINERY PLC has significantly increased its exports of WT GASOLINE and urea to several African nations in an effort to mitigate supply disruptions. This move comes as the continent faces energy challenges exacerbated by the ongoing conflict involving Iran. Aliko Dangote, the facility's owner, noted that the refinery is currently operating at its full capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, providing a critical buffer against the current crisis for both Nigeria and the broader region. > What I can do is assure Nigerians ... and most of West Africa, Central Africa, and East Africa, we have the capacity to supply them. The facility, located on the outskirts of Lagos, has already dispatched 17 cargoes of gasoline to various African countries. Furthermore, urea fertilizer exports have risen as regional buyers seek alternative sources. While the refinery has an annual production capacity of 3 million metric tons of urea—typically exported to the United States and South America—recent efforts have focused on meeting the needs of neighboring markets. > In the last couple of days, weve been looking to mostly African countries, which we were not doing before. Despite the refinery's high production levels, local fuel prices in Nigeria have hit record highs. This is largely due to the impact of elevated global prices for Brent Crude Oil. To address these costs, the refinery is exploring options to purchase more crude cargoes using local currency. To support these operations, the state-owned oil firm has reportedly increased its allocation to the refinery, providing seven cargoes for the month of May compared to five in previous months.
