Mozambique Seeks World Bank Budget Support Amid IMF Visit
Mozambique seeks to restore World Bank budget support as IMF officials visit Maputo. The government signed 450 million dollars in new project financing deals.
Mozambique is seeking the resumption of direct budget support from the World Bank as part of a macroeconomic stabilization drive. The initiative follows the signing of five financing agreements worth $450 million for social and infrastructure projects on Tuesday. Resuming this support would address a decade-long suspension triggered by a hidden debt scandal and support the authorities' plans for fiscal sustainability.
### Rebuilding Multilateral Ties in Maputo Finance Minister Carla Louveira confirmed on Tuesday that the government is pushing to activate the World Bank’s Development Policy Operation. This move requires meeting specific benchmarks on debt sustainability and financial integrity. The request follows a recent visit to the United States by President Daniel Chapo to discuss the partnership.
