Mexico Seeks Early Trade Deal on Steel and Auto Exports
President Sheinbaum seeks a preliminary deal on steel and autos before the USMCA review. This comes as U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer visits Mexico.
Mexico is seeking to establish an early trade agreement with the United States and Canada focused on the steel, aluminum, and automotive sectors. President Claudia Sheinbaum stated on Monday that her administration is interested in reaching these terms prior to the formal review of the regional trade pact. The announcement comes as U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer visits the country for high-level talks.
The focus on these specific industries is vital for major producers like ALCOA CORP and the integrated automotive supply chain. Mexico is currently a primary exporter of vehicles, auto parts, and mechanical equipment, with the majority of these goods destined for the American market.
