Mexico Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard has signaled a shift in trade expectations, urging domestic industries to move past the era of duty-free commerce as the United States maintains a firm stance on protectionist measures. Speaking on the sidelines of a recent event, Ebrard acknowledged that the current tariff landscape for the automotive, steel, and aluminum sectors is likely to persist, even as negotiations to revamp the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) approach.
"We shouldn’t be nostalgic about a time when there were no tariffs."
