LME suspends electronic trading and uses backup pricing
The London Metal Exchange halted electronic trading today due to a technical issue. It uses backup pricing for closing while inter-office trading continues.
The London Metal Exchange (LME) faced a significant operational challenge on Monday as its primary electronic trading platform, LME Select, was hit by a technical halt. The exchange confirmed that electronic trading became unavailable while technical teams worked to address the failure.
Market data for major metal contracts—including copper, aluminium, lead, zinc, nickel, and tin—stopped updating on the Workspace platform provided by London Stock Exchange Group plc at roughly 1500 GMT. While the electronic system was paralyzed, the LME reported that its inter-office trading services continued to function as normal, providing a secondary avenue for market participants.
