KIA CORP of South Korea has announced a significant reduction in its long-term electric vehicle sales targets, citing a cooling global market and shifts in international policy. During an investor presentation on Thursday, the automaker revealed it now expects to sell 1 million electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030, representing a decrease of more than 20% from the 1.26 million unit goal established last year.

The downward revision is attributed to several factors, including a general softening in EV demand and the impact of the United States removing electric vehicle subsidies last year. Kia Corp also lowered its overall global sales target for all vehicle types to 4.13 million units by 2030, compared to the earlier target of 4.19 million units.

In a move to modernize its manufacturing capabilities, the company plans to introduce advanced robotics into its production lines. According to investor presentation materials, Kia Corp intends to deploy Atlas humanoid robots at its manufacturing facility in Georgia. Developed by Boston Dynamics, these robots are expected to begin operations on the factory floor starting in 2029.
