JSW Steel Plants Face Disruptions Over Gas Shortages
JSW Group reports steel plant disruptions as India faces a gas crisis. One unit may shut down because Middle East conflict has blocked key fuel supply routes.
Mounting gas shortages have begun to disrupt operations at several steel plants belonging to India's top metals conglomerate, with at least one unit facing a potential shutdown in the coming days. According to an internal note, JSW Steel Limited reported that disruptions to fuel supplies and maritime operations are impacting its operational stability and supply chain.
The nation, which stands as the world's second-largest crude steel producer, is currently navigating its most severe gas crisis in decades. This situation follows conflicts in the Middle East that have significantly hampered traditional supply routes. As a result, the JSW Steel Coated Products division risks failing to meet sales and supply obligations for tinplate under the government's production-linked incentive scheme, leading the company to request a six-month extension.
