Japan Union Seeks 6 Percent Wage Hike
Japan's largest labor union group Rengo set a target of 6 percent for wage increases during the 2027 negotiations, aiming to maintain strong wage-growth momentum amid persistent labor shortages across the country.

Japan's largest labor umbrella group unveiled a wage bargaining policy targeting a 6% midpoint increase for 2027 negotiations, while maintaining a 5% floor. The move seeks to reinforce wage-growth momentum after workers secured average pay gains above 5% for three consecutive years. Stronger pay demands could complicate the Bank of Japan's efforts to anchor inflation around its 2% target.
