Italy investigates Biogen over alleged market abuse
Italy's antitrust watchdog is investigating Biogen for allegedly excluding rival Sandoz from the drug market. Officials inspected offices regarding natalizumab.
Italy opened an antitrust investigation into BIOGEN INC and its local unit for allegedly abusing a dominant market position. The probe centers on claims that the United States drugmaker blocked competition for multiple sclerosis treatments. Regulatory scrutiny of pharmaceutical pricing and market access remains a primary risk factor for healthcare investors in Europe.
### Allegations of Market Exclusion The Italian competition authority said on Wednesday that Biogen Italia and its parent company allegedly worked to exclude SANDOZ GROUP AG from the market. The regulator stated the actions targeted rival versions of drugs based on the active ingredient natalizumab.
