Ireland Considers Early EU Bailout Loan Repayment

Irish Finance Minister Simon Harris plans to allow the debt agency to repay up to eight billion euros in EU bailout loans ahead of schedule. The early repayments aim to reduce interest costs and would occur between 2027 and 2028 subject to European approval.

Ireland plans to repay up to €8 billion ($8.9 billion) in international bailout loans ahead of schedule to cut interest costs. The proposed repayments target European Financial Stabilisation Mechanism debt due in 2027 and 2028. The move follows four consecutive years of budget surpluses driven by strong corporate tax revenue from multinationals.
