India Probes China and Indonesia Paperboard Imports
India launched an anti-subsidy probe into paperboard imports from China and Indonesia on Friday. Imports from China totaled about $857 million during 2024.
The trade ministry of India has officially launched an anti-subsidy investigation into the import of multi-layer paperboard from China and Indonesia. According to a government statement released on Friday, the probe is designed to determine if these imports are benefiting from foreign subsidies that cause material injury to the domestic industry. Trade data from UN COMTRADE highlights the scale of this sector, noting that India imported approximately $857 million worth of paper and paperboard products from China in 2024. This regulatory action reflects an effort to maintain fair competition within the local market. The outcome of the investigation will decide whether countervailing duties will be applied to future paperboard imports from these two nations.
