IMF says Lebanon needs comprehensive reforms to restore strong economic growth

The International Monetary Fund says Lebanon must restructure its banking sector and fiscal strategy to achieve growth. Resilience in tourism is not enough.

The International Monetary Fund is currently engaged in active discussions with Lebanese LBLB authorities following their formal request for an IMF-supported program in March 2025. These talks are focused on a series of comprehensive reforms aimed at addressing the nation's economic challenges and restoring financial stability. Earlier this month, an IMF staff mission was dispatched to Beirut to conduct technical meetings and evaluate the progress of the proposed policy measures.
