Hindalco Suspends Extruded Aluminium Output Amid Gas Crisis
Hindalco halted extruded aluminium output due to gas shortages from the Iran war. The firm declared force majeure on March 11 while keeping smelters running.
Hindalco Industries, a prominent metals producer under the Aditya Birla Group, has suspended the production of extruded aluminium products at its facilities in India. The company issued a notice declaring force majeure to its customers on March 11, citing a severe shortage of natural gas. This disruption comes as the country grapples with its most significant energy crisis in recent history, driven by regional instability.
The gas supply chain has been severely impacted by the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. To protect domestic consumers and ensure the availability of cooking gas for households, the Indian government has implemented strict measures to divert supplies away from industrial users. This policy has left major manufacturers like Hindalco with insufficient fuel to maintain full operations.
