According to the latest figures from the labor office, 3.07 million people were registered as out of work, representing a slight decrease from the previous month but an increase of 81,000 compared to a year ago. In seasonally adjusted terms, the number of jobless people rose by 1,000 to reach 2.977 million, a figure that was slightly better than the 2,000-person increase anticipated by economists in a Reuters poll.
