German Unemployment Rate Holds Steady at 6.3 Percent
German unemployment held steady at 6.3 percent in March as the spring upturn lacked momentum. Economic institutes cut growth forecasts due to energy prices.
Germany's labor market remained stable in March, with unemployment figures holding steady despite expectations of a slight increase. Data released on Tuesday by the Federal Labour Office showed that the seasonally adjusted number of unemployed people stood at 2.977 million, mirroring the figures recorded in February. This outcome defied predictions from analysts and economists, who had anticipated a rise of approximately 2,000 in a recent poll.
The seasonally adjusted jobless rate remained unchanged at 6.3%, aligning with market forecasts. While March typically marks the beginning of a seasonal spring recovery in employment, officials noted a lack of significant movement this year. Andrea Nahles, head of the Labour Office, provided context on the current situation.
