German retailers expect modest sales boost from World Cup
German retailers expect a modest sales boost from the World Cup. The HDE notes that the tournament's location abroad will likely limit the impact to specific sectors like food and electronics.
Germany retailers expect a modest sales boost from the World Cup starting the following day, according to the HDE retail association. This forecast follows an HDE survey of around 400 companies showing that 25% of businesses are stocking tournament-related inventory. The HDE expects the event to generate specific sales momentum rather than a broad recovery because the tournament is being held abroad.
### Sector-Specific Gains Over Broad Recovery HDE head Stefan Genth said the sales impact will likely be limited to specific categories because the tournament takes place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Food, clothing, electronics, and sports retailers are among the most active participants stocking promotional goods. Genth noted that events held outside domestic borders typically see gains confined to individual product lines.
