German Inflation Cools to 2.8% in October

German annual inflation slowed more than expected to 2.8 percent in October following the introduction of a government fuel tax cut. Core inflation also declined as consumer price growth eased across the country ahead of euro zone data.

Germany consumer price growth slowed to 2.8% year-on-year in October, falling past expectations following the rollout of a new fuel tax cut. That deceleration outperformed forecasts from economists polled by Reuters, who projected a 3.1% rate following September's 3.3% reading. The lower inflation print precedes Wednesday's euro zone update, keeping pressure on the European Central Bank's monetary policy path.
