French Regulator Warns of Crypto Compliance Gap Ahead of EU Deadline

France's financial watchdog, the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF), has raised alarms over a significant compliance gap among cryptocurrency companies operating within the country. In a public statement released on January 13, 2026, the AMF highlighted that approximately 30% of the nation's crypto firms have not responded to compliance notices issued in November 2025. These notices were a reminder of the impending June 30, 2026, deadline mandated by the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulatory framework.
The MiCA regulations, which came into force last year, require crypto companies to secure licenses from their national regulators to continue operations across the European Union
EU. As of now, only a portion of the nearly 90 registered crypto companies in France
FRhave initiated the licensing process. The AMF reported that 30% have applied for licenses, while 40% have indicated they are not seeking compliance. The remaining 30% have neither communicated their intentions nor responded to the regulatory letters.
