EU sets August deadline for Bulgaria recovery aid

While praising progress on anti-corruption measures, officials noted that further energy sector improvements are required to access the next 370 million euro tranche.

Bulgaria must complete anti-corruption and energy reforms by late August 2026 to unlock the remaining €2.9B in EU recovery grants. The deadline follows five parliamentary elections in three years that slowed legislative progress on the €6.2B total aid package. Securing these funds is critical for Sofia to modernize its power grid.
