European Airlines Seek EU Aid Amid Iran War Fuel Crisis
European airlines have asked the EU for emergency aid to manage fuel shortages and airspace closures. The group seeks joint fuel buying and tax suspensions.
European airlines are calling for urgent intervention from the European Union to mitigate the severe operational and economic impacts of the ongoing conflict involving Iran. The industry group Airlines for Europe (A4E) has submitted a formal request for emergency measures as the sector faces widespread airspace closures and a critical shortage of jet fuel.
The conflict, which escalated following military actions involving the United States and Israel starting February 28, has forced the European Union Aviation Safety Agency to prohibit flights over several Gulf nations. These restrictions, affecting the airspace of the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, are currently slated to remain in place until at least April 24.
