EU Lawmaker Slams Proposed US Tariffs and Labor Claims
Bernd Lange of the European Parliament trade committee called proposed U.S. tariffs on EU goods unacceptable. He rejected claims that the bloc fails to curb forced labor trade, noting the EU adopted strict legislation in 2024.
Bernd Lange, chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on International Trade, rejected proposed United States tariffs of 10% or 12.5% on European goods. The USTR proposed the duties, citing insufficient EU action against forced labor in global supply chains. A breach of the 15% tariff cap established in the Turnberry Agreement threatens to reignite a transatlantic trade conflict.
