The United States government is prepared to provide federal loan guarantees for the first wave of new nuclear reactors, according to Energy Secretary Chris Wright. Speaking at a House Appropriations Subcommittee hearing, Wright noted that the first five to ten planned reactors will likely receive support from the Department of Energy’s lending office. This initiative aligns with an executive order from President Donald Trump that calls for 10 large-scale reactors to be under construction by 2030 and directs the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to streamline the approval process.
