Egypt Increases Electricity Rates for High Use Consumers
Egypt raised electricity prices for high-use households and businesses today. Low-consumption users are exempt as the state manages a global energy crisis.
Egypt has implemented electricity price increases for high-use residential and commercial consumers starting in April, according to a statement released by the electricity ministry on Saturday. The government cited a severe global energy crisis linked to regional conflict as the primary driver for the adjustment. The ministry noted that the increases are specifically targeted at higher-consumption segments to ensure the continuity of electricity supply across all sectors. Households with lower consumption levels will not be affected by the price changes, as the state aims to mitigate the impact on lower-income residents while addressing the broader energy deficit. This policy follows previous conservation efforts, including the early closure of commercial establishments such as malls and restaurants to reduce power demand. These measures are part of the national response to a shortage of petroleum products and the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region that have disrupted global energy supplies.
