CBO Estimates Golden Dome Missile Shield at 1.2 Trillion
The Congressional Budget Office estimates the Golden Dome missile defense shield will cost 1.2 trillion dollars over 20 years. This figure far exceeds the Pentagon's 185 billion dollar estimate and reflects high costs for a 7,800 satellite constellation.
The United States Congressional Budget Office estimated on Tuesday that the "Golden Dome" missile shield will cost $1.2 trillion over 20 years. The Pentagon's program director had previously estimated the cost at $185 billion. The gap between the two figures signals potential disagreement over the scope and expenses of the 7,800-satellite constellation.
The CBO report details costs for developing, deploying, and operating the expanded defense network. Golden Dome integrates ground-based interceptors and sensors with a new orbital layer. Acquisition costs alone will total $1 trillion, according to the CBO.
