Former AVIC chief Tan Ruisong gets suspended death sentence
Former AVIC chief Tan Ruisong received a suspended death sentence for bribery. He was convicted of embezzlement and leaking insider data over his long career.
A court in China has sentenced Tan Ruisong, the former chairman of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), to death with a two-year reprieve following a high-profile corruption trial. The ruling, delivered on Wednesday in the northeastern province of Liaoning, marks a significant milestone in the ongoing crackdown on graft within the nation's military-industrial complex.
Tan Ruisong was found guilty of multiple charges, including embezzlement, bribery, insider trading, and leaking insider information. According to the court's first-instance judgment, the former aerospace executive accumulated more than 700 million yuan, approximately $101.45 million, through illicit activities over a career spanning three decades in the aerospace sector. He was expelled from the ruling Communist Party in February 2025.
