Carlyle to buy majority stake in MAI Capital for 2.8 billion
Carlyle Group will buy a majority stake in MAI Capital Management at a 2.8 billion dollar valuation. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter.
Global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group Inc. has agreed to acquire a majority stake in MAI Capital Management in a transaction that values the investment adviser at more than $2.8 billion. The deal represents a major move for the private equity firm as it expands its footprint in the wealth management sector. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Cleveland, MAI Capital Management oversaw $72.6 billion in assets under management and advisement as of January 1. The firm offers a wide range of services to its clients, including financial planning, investment management, retirement planning, and tax services. It also provides family office capabilities and institutional consulting. The acquisition is expected to close in the second quarter of 2026, subject to customary regulatory approvals.
