Canada Budget Deficit Halves to C$5.36 Billion
Canada recorded a lower C$5.36 billion budget deficit for the first five months of the fiscal year as revenues grew faster than expenses. Year to date revenues rose by 7.1 percent while program expenses increased.

Canada recorded a budget deficit of C$5.36 billion ($3.84 billion) for the first five months of the 2026/27 fiscal year, falling from C$11.07 billion a year earlier. The narrower shortfall reflects revenue growth outpacing government expenses during the period, according to the finance ministry. The improvement highlights stronger fiscal performance as federal income tax and GST receipts increased.
