Brazilian beef exporters could receive minimum annual quotas for China shipments

Brazil may grant beef exporters individual quotas of 8,000 tons for China trade. This plan aims to support smaller plants and manage new import tariffs.

A legal opinion seen by Reuters indicates that the Brazilian government could back a plan to assign individual minimum export quotas of at least 8,000 metric tons per beef exporter for shipments from Brazil BRBR to China CNCN. This proposal comes as the industry grapples with Beijing’s new safeguard tariff and quota regime, which became effective on January 1 for a three-year period. Under these measures, a 55% tariff is applied to all shipments exceeding the quota, creating an immediate need for a structured allocation mechanism to manage export volumes and ensure market stability.
