Botswana Cuts Budget Deficit Forecast

Botswana lowered its fiscal deficit forecast to 3.1 percent of GDP from 8.9 percent. Finance Minister Ndaba Gaolathe cited higher central bank revenue and spending curbs for the improvement.

Botswana slashed its projected budget deficit to 9.26 billion pula ($646.35M), or 3.1% of GDP, for the period ending March 2027. That is down from the 26.35 billion pula deficit forecast in the February budget speech. The sharp reduction follows higher-than-expected revenue from the central bank and stricter spending controls.
