Boeing Company Reports Quarterly Profit Driven by Major Asset Divestiture as Operational Divisions Face Ongoing Losses

This profitability was primarily driven by the $10.6 billion sale of the Jeppesen digital aviation services provider, a transaction that closed during the fourth quarter. Underlying business health remained under pressure as the commercial airplane unit posted a quarterly loss of $632 million, and the defense and space unit recorded a loss of $507 million. Chief Financial Officer Jay Malave jay malavenoted that quarterly revenue rose 57% to $23.95 billion, surpassing expectations of $22.6 billion. However, the company recorded a $565 million charge on the KC-46 aerial-refueling tanker program due to increased production support and supply chain costs. Chief Executive Officer Kelly Ortberg kelly ortbergstated that he expects this KC-46 charge to be a one-time event.
