Bank of Korea maintains interest rate at 2.50 percent
The Bank of Korea kept its benchmark interest rate at 2.50 percent on Friday. Officials cite inflation risks from the Middle East conflict as a key concern.
The central bank of South Korea opted to maintain its current policy interest rate on Friday, adopting a cautious approach as escalating conflict in the Middle East threatens to drive up domestic inflation and hamper economic expansion. The nation remains particularly vulnerable to regional instability due to its heavy reliance on energy supplies from the Middle East.
During the recent meeting, the seven-member monetary policy board of the Bank of Korea voted to keep the benchmark interest rate unchanged at 2.50%. This move aligned with the expectations of all 31 economists previously surveyed by Reuters, reflecting a consensus that the bank would prioritize stability amid global uncertainty.
