Armed Men Board Tanker Near Yemen
Armed individuals have boarded a commercial tanker off the coast of Yemen and diverted the vessel toward Somalia. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported the incident following an unauthorized approach in the Gulf of Aden.
Six armed individuals boarded an oil tanker in the Gulf of Aden on Thursday morning, seizing control of the vessel and diverting it toward Somalia. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported the takeover, coming hours after the ship first signaled it was being approached by unauthorized craft.
The vessel was located 136 nautical miles east of Mukalla in Yemen when the boarding occurred. Maritime authorities have not yet confirmed the safety or status of the crew members aboard the seized tanker.
