Amazon Plans to Move Annual Prime Day Sale to Late June
Amazon plans to move its annual Prime Day sale to late June from July. This shift moves the major shopping event into the company's second fiscal quarter.
Amazon.com, Inc. is reportedly planning to move its annual Prime Day sales event to late June, according to reports from Bloomberg News. This shift marks a notable change for the decade-old shopping tradition, which has historically been held in July. By rescheduling the event, the company would align the high-volume sales period with its second fiscal quarter, which ends on June 30. Prime Day has traditionally coincided with the summer shopping season, serving as a major draw for parents and students preparing for the academic year in the United States. Aside from adjustments made during the pandemic, the event has remained a July fixture since its launch in 2015. Last year, the shopping window was expanded to four days, driving a significant surge in consumer activity. Data from Adobe Inc. indicates that online spending across the retail sector reached $24.1 billion during the event, representing a 30% increase over the previous year. The strategic timing change comes as the e-commerce leader faces heightened competition from other major retailers. Both Walmart Inc. and Target Corporation have made substantial investments in their digital infrastructure and rapid fulfillment capabilities. Walmart recently reported that its e-commerce sales contribution nearly doubled, while the use of its ultra-fast delivery options—offering service in under three hours—grew by more than 60% during the 2026 fiscal year.
