Insights:
Alumis Inc. announced on Tuesday, January 6, that its experimental drug envudeucitinib achieved significant results in two late-stage trials for moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis. The trials revealed that 65% of patients experienced a 90% or greater improvement in symptoms after 24 weeks of treatment, with over 40% achieving complete skin clearance. This breakthrough has triggered a remarkable 155% surge in Alumis' share price, reaching $21 per share and adding approximately $1.3 billion to its market value.
The drug, envudeucitinib, functions by blocking TYK2, a protein associated with immune signals that lead to inflammation. This positions it as a potential competitor to Bristol Myers Squibb Company 's Sotyktu, a similar TYK2 inhibitor approved for psoriasis in 2022. The positive trial results have reinforced envudeucitinib's potential as a best-in-class treatment, according to Cantor analyst Eric Schmidt eric schmidt, who noted that the data was stronger than expected and highlighted the significant rate of complete skin clearance.
