African Central Banks Halt Rate Cuts Amid Oil Price Surge
African officials warn that high oil prices from the Iran conflict will halt monetary easing and hit mining. Central banks are reassessing interest rate cuts.
African policymakers and financial experts are warning that a sudden surge in global energy prices, driven by the conflict involving Iran, is threatening to stall the continent's economic recovery and disrupt monetary easing cycles. In Uganda, the central bank indicated it would reassess its policy tools to maintain effectiveness in an increasingly volatile environment. The institution noted that global instability has become a permanent challenge for monetary authorities.
