The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has warned that persistent conflict in the Middle East could significantly impact economic conditions across developing Asia and the Pacific. According to new research released on Thursday, if disruptions in the energy market continue for more than a year, inflation in the region could rise by as much as 3.2 percentage points. The bank further projected that the ongoing geopolitical tensions could reduce economic growth in the region by up to 1.3 percentage points during the 2026-2027 period. These economic pressures are expected to manifest through several channels, including increased energy costs, disruptions to trade and supply chains, and more restrictive financial conditions. In addition to these primary factors, the ADB noted that tourism and remittances—critical economic drivers for many nations in the area—could also face downward pressure. The classification of developing Asia includes numerous member nations but excludes Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.
