The World Gold Council cut its 2026 investment growth forecast as retail bar and coin buying slowed. Strong central bank purchases and ETF inflows helped offset the drop.

The World Gold Council cut its forecast for global investment growth in Gold to 200 metric tons from 400 tons on Tuesday morning, driven by softer retail appetite for physical bars and coins. That downward revision comes as spot prices retreat from record highs, cooling the frenetic retail momentum seen earlier in the year. Investors are recalibrating their holdings as shifting macroeconomic conditions alter the appeal of safe-haven assets.
