Vietnam Names Pham Duc An as New Central Bank Governor
Vietnam's parliament approved Pham Duc An as the new central bank governor today. Ngo Van Tuan was also named finance minister in a regular leadership shift.
The parliament of Vietnam has formally approved the appointment of career banker Pham Duc An as the new governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV). The appointment, confirmed for a five-year term, is part of a broader government leadership transition following the Communist Party's five-yearly congress in January and the recent naming of Le Minh Hung as the country’s new Prime Minister.
Pham Duc An, 56, brings extensive experience from the state-owned banking sector, having spent approximately 20 years at the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV). His career also included a tenure at the Vietnam–Russia Joint Venture Bank between 2011 and 2014. He succeeds Nguyen Thi Hong, who has led the central bank since 2020 and was recently appointed as a deputy head of parliament.
