US Stocks Fall as Tech Slides and Mideast Tensions Rise
The S&P 500 and Nasdaq ended lower on Tuesday as a decline in semiconductor shares and reports of a downed U.S. helicopter in the Middle East weighed on investor sentiment. Markets are now focused on upcoming inflation data from the United States and China alongside an emergency rate hike in Indonesia.
The United States equity markets declined on Tuesday as a tech-sector slide and geopolitical tensions in Iran pressured major indices. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 1% and the S&P 500 fell 0.3% following reports of a downed U.S. helicopter. This volatility comes as investors shift focus toward key global inflation data scheduled for June 10.
Asian markets finished mostly up on Tuesday, providing a regional contrast to the declines in Western indices. Despite the headline drop in the S&P 500, breadth remained positive as nine of the index's 11 sectors rose, led by a 2% gain in real estate.
