US moves closer to high tariffs on Russian palladium
The US Commerce Department set a final 109.1 percent duty on Russian palladium imports. This follows a petition to support domestic supply sustainability.
The United States Department of Commerce finalized a 109.1% countervailing duty on Russia palladium imports on May 21. This follows an April 2026 ruling that set anti-dumping duties at 132.83% for the metal. The move threatens to sever a critical supply chain for the automotive industry to protect domestic mining interests.
### Trade Barriers and Domestic Protection The duties will take effect if the International Trade Commission confirms that the domestic industry suffered harm. This investigation responds to a petition filed last summer by SIBANYE-STILLWATER LTD-ADR and the United Steelworkers union. Sibanye-Stillwater argued that protection is necessary to ensure the long-term sustainability of the American supply.
