United States copper imports from the Democratic Republic of the Congo surged to 53,290 metric tons in July, driven by industrial buyers capitalizing on steep discounts. The record volume gave the African nation a 23.9% share of overall Copper imports, which crossed 220,000 tons.
The influx marks a sharp acceleration from 2024, when the United States imported less than 32,000 tons from the producer over the entire year. Traders rushed shipments ahead of potential tariffs while output climbed.
