US Finalizes 2.48 Percent Medicare Advantage Rate Hike
The U.S. finalized a 2.48 percent Medicare Advantage rate hike for 2027. This decision boosted insurance stocks and will provide 13 billion dollars in funding.
The United States government has finalized a 2.48% average increase in payments to private insurers offering Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. This final rate represents a substantial upward revision from the nearly flat 0.09% increase initially proposed in January, providing a significant boost to the healthcare insurance sector.
Following the announcement, shares of major industry players saw a sharp rise in extended trading. UNITEDHEALTH GROUP INC, CVS HEALTH CORP, and HUMANA INC recorded gains ranging between 8% and 14%. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services stated that the adjusted rate will result in more than $13 billion in additional payments to Medicare Advantage plans throughout 2027.
