US Goods Trade Deficit Widens

The US goods trade deficit unexpectedly widened to $134.9 billion in September as imports increased. The rise suggests trade subtracted from third quarter economic growth.

The United States goods trade deficit widened 2.1% or $2.8 billion to $134.9 billion in September as imports increased. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast the goods deficit at $130.2 billion. The wider trade gap suggests that trade subtracted from economic growth for the third consecutive quarter.
