United States special envoy Steve Witkoff is set to discuss the potential release of detained American citizen Stephen Hubbard with Russia President Vladimir Putin during a meeting this week. The diplomatic push comes after a Moscow court sentenced the 74-year-old retired schoolteacher to six years and 10 months in prison in October 2024. Washington formally designated Hubbard as wrongfully detained in January 2025, enabling the government to pursue negotiations.
