Dollar Weakens as Hopes for Middle East Ceasefire Increase
The dollar fell as ceasefire hopes grew following US signals that the Iran war could end soon. The yen recovered while markets awaited a White House update.
The United States dollar declined for a second consecutive session on Wednesday as optimism grew regarding a potential ceasefire in the Middle East. The U.S. signaled that the conflict involving Iran might be nearing a conclusion, prompting a reversal in safe-haven trades that have dominated since late February. White House officials stated that President Donald Trump would address the nation to provide a significant update, following earlier remarks that military operations could end within weeks.
Currency markets reacted to the de-escalation hopes with the Japanese yen recovering from recent lows. The USD/JPY pair moved back below the 160 level, easing concerns about potential intervention by authorities in Japan. Meanwhile, the EUR/USD reached its highest point in a week, gaining 0.3% to trade at $1.1583, as the broader dollar index slipped to 99.60.
