UN cuts West Bank food aid in half on funding crunch
The UN World Food Programme has halved its food assistance in the West Bank, affecting 200000 people due to funding shortages. Rising settler violence and military operations have driven up food insecurity in the region.
The World Food Programme will halve food assistance to 200,000 vulnerable residents in Palestine's West Bank starting Tuesday afternoon due to severe funding shortfalls. The U.N. agency previously supported 400,000 people across rural areas and southern villages.
The cut arrives as escalating military operations and settler violence drive local needs higher. Shaun Hughes, WFP Country Director for Palestine, said movement restrictions and land demolitions have eroded Palestinian livelihoods.
