UK probes 3.4 billion dollar Suzano Kimberly-Clark deal
The Competition and Markets Authority has launched a phase 1 probe into a joint venture between Suzano and Kimberly-Clark. A decision is expected by May 28.
The United Kingdom competition regulator has initiated a formal inquiry into a multi-billion dollar partnership involving major international industrial players. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced on Friday that it has commenced a Phase 1 investigation regarding a $3.4 billion joint venture between Brazil-based pulp manufacturer Suzano and the American consumer goods titan Kimberly-Clark Corporation.

This regulatory scrutiny aims to determine whether the proposed collaboration between the world's largest hardwood pulp producer and the personal care giant could substantially lessen competition within the British market. The CMA has established a deadline of May 28 to conclude its initial assessment and announce whether the deal will be cleared or referred for a more in-depth Phase 2 probe.
The transaction represents a significant consolidation in the global supply chain for paper-based consumer products. Kimberly-Clark and Suzano are navigating the regulatory landscape as the CMA evaluates the potential impact on consumer choice and pricing in the region.
