FCA Launches Investigation Into Collapsed Lender MFS
The FCA is investigating Market Financial Solutions following its February collapse. Creditors face a 1.3 billion pound shortfall as banks face scrutiny.
The financial regulator in the United Kingdom has launched an enforcement investigation into the collapsed mortgage lender Market Financial Solutions (MFS). The move follows the firm's downfall in February, which left creditors, including prominent global banks and private credit funds, facing a shortfall estimated to exceed 1.3 billion pounds ($1.74 billion).
According to a statement from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the London-based lender was registered and supervised only for compliance with money laundering, terrorist financing, and transfer of funds regulations. The regulator noted that MFS was not subject to wider financial regulation. Specializing in complex property-related loans, MFS was placed into administration following allegations of mismanagement and financial irregularities.
