UK minimum wage projected to rise 3.7 percent in 2027
The Low Pay Commission says the hourly rate may reach 13.18 pounds in 2027. This follows a 4.1 percent increase taking effect for millions of workers tomorrow.
The minimum wage in the United Kingdom could rise by approximately 3.7% in 2027 to reach £13.18 ($17.38) per hour, according to the latest projections from the Low Pay Commission. This potential adjustment was announced as part of an annual consultation process, coinciding with the 2026 increase to £12.71 per hour for workers aged 21 and over taking effect. The commission indicated that the 2027 forecast remains provisional, with the final hourly rate expected to fall between £13.02 and £13.34 depending on broader earnings growth across the economy. Philippa Stroud, the Conservative lawmaker who chairs the commission, emphasized the importance of gathering evidence from all stakeholders during this period of transition.
The current economic uncertainty makes it essential that the Commission hears from those affected by the minimum wage and builds consensus for evidence-based recommendations.
